Select knob press rarely works

Has anyone else had issues with the ‘press’ function of the select knob? Since day one it didn’t respond sometimes, but at first i just thought i didn’t press it properly. But yesterday it barely responded at all. Luckely you can press ‘enter’ instead, but i loved not taking my hand off.

I’d send it back for repair to where i bought it, but since i put the DSP-card in myself, their warranty is probably not applicable.

And before i even contemplate all this, is it even worth it, since you can use ‘enter’ instead?
It might be better to relearn muscle memory than repair…

i have the same issue on my unit and decided to not care about it.
rob gave me instructions on how to fix the problem, but i didnt really got to it.

i hope its ok to share his e-mail answer:

For the encoder I would like you to try something for me - remove the closest metal side to it (you will need a T10 hex screwdriver for the silver screws) and you will see directly underneath the encoder a small red socket where it connects to the UI board. Unplug the encoder and then plug is back in again FIRMLY then test with the side off. Let me know how you get on please.

maybe your encoder knob moved down the shaft too far and thus prevents the “click” action, you can open the grub screw on the side of the knob with a suitable tox/hex key and then move the know up a mm or so and tighten again.

My encoder knob went dead (the click function) a few months ago. But since it was not possible to source the original encoder, I had to replaced mine with a Grayhill 62SG11-M5-020C. Rob kindly send me some instructions which involved desoldering the old from the board and tricking the firmware so it behaved the way it should. the the new one came with a ribbon, so did not needed to be soldered, the socket for thr ribbon was already present on the mainboard, so they already thought ahead of dealing with encoder replacement when they designed the board. This machine is so wel engineered! :ok_hand:t2:

Def. Worth a try! Thx!

My s2400 has had issues since I got it with the press function, and it’s only a few months later, did it die on you after using it quite some time or also shortly after buying it?

Thanks! Will try!

After 2+ years but not heavy daily use. Lets say around 2-4 hours per week

My friend had trouble with this.

I tightened his knob into the proper place (it was loose enough) and I got results immediately,

Lol

A note here: depending on your machine’s Serial Number, it may come with either a Grayhill optical encoder or a fixed one. Always raise a support ticket to check with us first before ordering a replacement to avoid confusion/disappointment

Ahhh that explains the instructions Hanzbene posted. Thanks for clarifying. I’ll be careful next time!
